The All Progressives Congress (APC ) on Monday intensified its campaign for the August 15 Osun State governorship election, taking its message to Ede, the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and Awo in Egbedore Local Government Area, where party leaders expressed confidence that the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), would record a major electoral breakthrough.
Addressing supporters during separate campaign rallies, APC leaders said the party was gaining momentum across the state and urged residents of Ede and Egbedore to vote massively for Oyebamiji.
Leading the campaign in Awo, the Director-General of the AMBO Campaign Organisation, Hon. Wole Oke, described the election as an opportunity for Osun residents to choose a new direction for the state.
Oke recalled that the APC lost Egbedore Local Government in the 2023 general election and appealed to party supporters to reverse the outcome by delivering overwhelming votes for the party in the forthcoming governorship poll.
According to him, the growing turnout at the party’s campaign rallies across the state, particularly in Ede and Awo, reflected increasing public support for the APC ahead of the election.
The campaign director-general also criticised the administration of Governor Adeleke, alleging that it had failed to invest adequately in education, healthcare and human capital development, particularly in Ede.
“Don’t vote for a governor who can’t read or write. Rather, vote for competence and someone with a good educational background,” Oke alleged.
He further claimed that despite producing the incumbent governor, Ede had not witnessed significant improvements in public schools and healthcare facilities.
“Adeleke abandoned human capital development in Ede. The schools are in a poor state, the hospitals are in a poor state, and those are the things that matter to ordinary people,” he alleged.
Despite acknowledging that many political observers regard the APC as the underdog in Ede, Oke expressed optimism that the party would surprise its opponents at the polls.
“We are being considered the underdog in Ede, but we will surprise them. You will see the votes that we will deliver,” he said.
Speaking at the rally in Ede, the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, expressed confidence that the town would deliver substantial votes for the APC despite being Governor Adeleke’s hometown.
“What we are expecting from Ede is a massive one,” Oyebamiji declared.
He promised purposeful leadership if elected, pledging to improve infrastructure, create employment opportunities and implement programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents across the state.
Oyebamiji also urged eligible voters to participate in the election and support the APC, assuring them that his administration would deliver inclusive development.
Also addressing party supporters, former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly and APC leader in Ede, Rt. Hon. Adejare Bello, dismissed suggestions that Ede would vote overwhelmingly for the incumbent governor simply because it is his hometown.
Bello argued that Ede had a history of political pluralism and urged residents to vote based on conviction rather than sentiment.
“The kind of votes Ede will deliver will surprise the whole world. The bulk of the votes that will return AMBO as governor will come from Ede,” he said.
According to Bello, supporting the APC would position Ede to benefit from the next administration if the party wins the governorship election.
He also disclosed that Ede North recorded more than 5,000 registered APC members during the party’s membership registration exercise, expressing confidence that the party would perform strongly in the town.
In Awo, APC chieftain, Mr. Dotun Babayemi, appealed to residents of Egbedore Local Government to support Oyebamiji, noting that the party was determined to reclaim the local government after its defeat there in the 2023 election.
“You all know that we lost here in the 2023 election. This time around, with your support, we will win in Egbedore. We assure you that when we assume office, you will all enjoy the dividends of good governance,” Babayemi said.
